🌿 The Skill Nobody Can See Yet

Three weeks into your one chosen focus, may come a rough day. A colleague may ask how the new approach is going, and you may realize you don’t have much to show. There’s no data point worth mentioning in a staff meeting, just a slightly different sticky note habit and a lot of quiet repetition.

Perhaps, the particular discouragement of doing real work that has not yet become visible is lurking. Professional growth rarely announces itself. It accumulates in places nobody is watching, including, most days, you.

Charlotte Danielson's framework for teaching, which many schools use to describe what skilled practice looks like, was built on a quiet premise worth naming directly: expertise is made of dozens of small, distinguishable moves, refined one at a time over years, not revealed or seen all at once. The invisible middle is not a detour from mastery, but mastery itself is still under construction.

This invisibility can fell uncomfortable, especially in a profession that runs on visible output all - the - time. Grades posted, units finished, boxes checked. Your growth this month may not show up on a spreadsheet - and that’s okay! It is showing up in three seconds of pause before you react.

From here, this week is simply about staying with the work you cannot yet see the results of, trusting that repetition, focus, and patience are doing something real.

A few questions to sit with:

• Where in your own practice are you doing quiet work that has not become visible yet?
• What would it take to trust that process even without proof this week?

The "unnecessities" were easy to spot and easy to cut. This part, the slow becoming, asks for something steadier: patience with your own pace.
