🌿 Tell someone else

Hello Reader!

Sometime soon, perhaps at a team meeting, a department check-in, or a quick hallway conversation, someone will ask whether anyone has tried anything new this fall worth sharing. Your instinct may be to pass, quietly assuming that what you have been working on is too small or too unfinished to mention.

We want to invite you to answer anyway. Describe your one focus, the reminder you kept, what shifted, and what you let go of to make room for it, even if it still feels like a work in progress.

We know that professional learning often gets framed as a solitary project, something you build alone and present only once it is finished and polished. Linda Darling-Hammond's research on effective professional development points to something different: skills become sturdier and more transferable when they are named out loud and shared in process, not just after the fact. Explaining a half-formed habit to someone else forces a kind of clarity that private practice alone rarely produces.

You may be surprised by how good it feels, not to have finished something, but simply to be honest about what you are still working on, and you may find that a colleague or two asks you to say more.

From here, this week's invitation is to name your one focus out loud to a single colleague, not as an accomplishment, but as a work in progress worth talking about.

A couple of questions to sit with:
Who is one colleague you trust enough to describe your unfinished growth to honestly?
What might become clearer for you simply by explaining it out loud?

Reimagining what professional growth looks like sometimes just means talking about it before it feels finished.

We would love to hear who you told about your own work in progress this week.

Warmly,

Tammy
