Hello Reader! A student stays after class one day and says something that stops you in your tracks. They say “Your feedback is different this year. It actually tells me what to do next.” The student doesn't know he is describing four weeks of deliberate, sticky-note-anchored practice you have been deep with. He just knew something had shifted. This is often how growth surfaces first, not in a self-assessment or an evaluation cycle, but in a small, specific comment from someone who simply experiences the difference. And it comes at a point when we stop expecting to see any change at all. We know that educators are trained to measure their own growth through formal channels: observations, rubrics, professional goals typed into a form each fall. Those channels matter, and yet the most honest evidence often arrives sideways, through a student's offhand comment or a colleague's passing question, precisely because it was not solicited. From here, this week's invitation is small: notice the sideways evidence. Let yourself register that focused, patient practice on that one thing is doing exactly what it was supposed to do.
